Guide to Using Lightroom Presets

Thank you for choosing our Lightroom presetsThis guide explains how to apply and adjust your presets to achieve optimal results in each photo, while respecting the unique identity of each image.

1. Understand the role of presets

A preset is a starting point for your retouching.

Each photo has its own visual identity (brightness, contrast, colors, atmosphere).

Even if the photo looks perfect after applying the preset, it is always advisable to check and adjust some settings for optimal rendering.

2. Application you preset

1. Open the photo in Lightroom.

2. Apply the preset in one click from the panel Presets.

3. Observe the overall rendering.

Even if the result seems perfect, some details may need adjustments depending on the light, colors or contrast.

3. Basic adjustments

For each photo, check the basic settings :

Exposition :

Must be calculated and controlled from the moment the shot is taken for optimal results.

Use a flash meter, spot meter or other tools to adjust brightness precisely.

Correct exposure at the time of shooting reduces the need for major corrections in post-production.

Contrast : enhances the difference between light and dark areas.

Highlights / Shadows : recovers details in very light or very dark areas.

Whites / Blacks : Sets the lightest and darkest points in the photo.

Clarity / Texture : improves image detail and depth.

Even if the photo looks perfect after applying the preset, test slight adjustments on these settings to get the most out of the image.

4. Color adjustments

After the basics, you can adjust the colors for a unique result:

Tint : modifies the tone of a color (e.g.: a green that is more yellow or more blue).

Saturation : It is the intensity of the color, its purity. The stronger the saturation, the more vivid or deep the color.

Brightness : it's the color clarity, its lightness or its depth.

Play with hue, saturation and brightness allows you to adapt the preset to the visual identity of each photo.

Even if the rendering seems perfect, feel free to adjust these settings slightly to harmonize the colors according to the desired atmosphere.

5. Additional creative adjustments

Thumbnail : focuses attention on the subject.

Grain : adds an authentic or cinematic effect.

Color filter / Split toning : Adjusts the hues in highlights and shadows for an artistic look.

These adjustments are optional, but can subtly improve the final rendering even on an already very successful photo.

6. Final check

Compare the photo before / after to evaluate the effect of the preset.

Each photo is different, so don't try to get the exact same result on all your images.

Even if the photo looks perfect after the preset, always try small adjustments to obtain an optimal and personalized result.

Advice

Applying a preset is a creativity tool, not an automatism.

Always adjust basic settings and colors depending on the light, mood and unique characteristics of each photo.

A controlled exposure from the moment you take the shot greatly facilitates post-production work.

Even if the photo looks perfect after the preset, test slight adjustments allows you to obtain a truly professional and harmonious result.
